JESS |
“Hi Barbara
We thought we would write a little bit about Jess.
Jess was brought across from Ireland In October 2008, she was rescued as a a stray working Irish Setter about 10 months old. She was our fourth Irish Setter rescue dog and the first working kind. We enlisted her straight away into the Bronze Good Citizen Training Scheme and then she progressed to the Silver and Gold and passed each one first time with a lot of work and effort from her and us! She then stayed in the senior class at the club.
A past master at garden escape and jumping high hedges Jess has been kept on lead for all walks. She has a sweet nature, is good with children, and everybody loves her. She is very quiet indoors but outside she wants to hunt, hunt, hunt anything that moves! We are now delighted to have found an outdoor class in orchards where she can run free before and after class. We are also lucky as the teacher lets us take her there out of class and Jess runs with the trainer's six Retrievers.
In 2010 we joined an indoor agility club to help Jess use her brain and her energy and she loves the climbing frames, tunnel and jumps (of course)! We have worked very hard with her and just before Christmas she won one of the club's special three prizes, it was the one for the dog making the most progress in 2011, so she was given a very large rosette! We were very pleased as the club has many classes and over a hundred members. We think it is possible for most breeds of dog to take part and enjoy agility.
I don't have any good pictures of her in the club as it is very dark in there but I am sending you some of her with her rosettes.
Jess has been a challenge but well worth it.
We do so admire you still collecting dogs from Ireland at service stations in the middle of the night!
What a wonderful job you and Dorothy do.
Happy New Year to you and your husband.
Annie, Sally and Jess of course.”
